Continential, Olde City
Ok, I've decided I am going to start writing restaurant reviews for everyone of our lunches, at the end, we can put a book together and call it something like, "Philly Restaurants for the Common Man"......
Let's start with Continental:
Ambience: The feel of the place was very nice, as you went towards the bathroom areas of the restaurant looked like something out the Frank Sinatra Era. The lighting and paint was soothing and comfortable
Service: The service was good, my only complaint was that there appeared to be too many wait staff. It actually was somewhat distracting. The place is not that large where you need that many staff members. Everytime I looked up there was somewhat running by serving people. It was very distracting.
Ice Tea: I could have gone for some "raw sugar"
Food: We orded the cheesteak egg rolls, the lobster mashed potatoes, the shoestring fries, and the shrimp and calamari. The food would be graded at about a C+. Nothing terribly special.
Cheesecake Egg rolls: Very tasty, similar to a steakup, the peppers and onions were good but the overall piece of egg roll was extremely greasy.
Lobster Mashed Potatoes: My lunch mates raved about it.....I say, "BLAH"...very salty and I was not fond of what appeared to be red wine on the bottom of the mashed potatoes.
Shoestring Fries: Good but reminded me of Potatoes sticks that I would eat out of a bag.
Calamari and Shrimp: I did not like the taste of the shrimp, very fishy tasty, almost day old tasting. The calamari was good but could have used some more seasoning on breading.
Overall, I gave Continental a C. I am sure that this place is fun to go at night and drink some martinis.......
